We’ve evolved to die. Like for the entire history of life on this planet life has come to an end. There is nothing, you know, consciously there’s nothing period out there that says this is how you behave if you live forever. This is how you start to structure a society if I can store my personality on a computer. This is what I do. I can store that personality onto a computer and download it into another body. These are huge, far flung really strange questions, right. And they seem totally science fiction at this point but everything we’ve seen over the past 25 years, right, is most of the science fiction cannon from the 20th century has turned into science fact in the twenty-first century already. So this twenty-first century sci-fi idea of mind uploading is probably going to be here by the twenty-second century. So we’ve got 50 years, 70 years to start figuring out these really complicated hard questions. The idea in mind uploading is that we can store ourselves on silicon. We can upload our personalities, our brains, some part of our consciousness onto computers and they can stay around forever. It is a far out there technology for sure even though British Telecom is working on it, even though people are working on it. It’s very early days. Ray Kurzweil has famously kind of pegged the date when we’re going to have to deal with this problem as 2045. That may be really, really enthusiastic. I think it’s a conservative prediction. But the point is that at some point in the century this is probably going to get real. And you’ve got to stop and you’ve got to go for all five of the world’s major religions just to start there. Use the threat of the hereafter, right. What’s going to happen after this life to steer morality and shape behavior. So what happens to theological morality in the face of technological immortality is the big kind of metaphysical question. If you look at the science fiction work of Richard K. Morgan whose fantastic, he talks about what happens when consciousness becomes downloadable and bodies become expendable and what that means for soldiers and armies and mercenaries and things along those lines. So there’s a really like a gritty cyberpunk underbelly in the mind uploading technology even though it’s being developed for educational purposes so we can preserve the brains of the Einstein’s and the Beethoven’s and the Richard Feynman’s of the world and really kind of get inside them. But it’s sort of like I think of it like television, right. When they created television they thought it was going to be used for educational purposes and that was the only – ask the creator of TV what do you think this would be good for. Well education of course. Fifty years later there’s not much education. There’s a whole lot of crap and I think we can see the same thing with mind uploading. But the difference of course is that mind uploading, storing selves on silicon, even teetering on the edge of so-called immortality changes everything about what it means to be human at a really fundamental deep level. And when I say fundamental deep level I mean we’re starting to muck around and mess around with evolutionary processes. Processes we have no idea what happens if you interrupt them because we’ve never done it before.

If we were able to move our brains, neuron-for-neuron, into a robot, would we still be the same person? Read more at BigThink.com: http://bigthink.com/videos/could-we-transport-our-consciousness-into-robots-2 Follow Big Think here: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/bigthink Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BigThinkdotcom Twitter: https://twitter.com/bigthink Transcript: Is consciousness imprinted in the brain, and will it be possible to transfer that via teleportation? (Submitted by Robin de Roover) Michio Kaku: Robin, you ask yet another very embarrassing question. Believe it or not even though tens of thousands of papers have been written about consciousness in the literature nobody has a suitable definition for "consciousness." What does it mean to be conscious and how do you encode it and what is the minimum amount of consciousness necessary to animate something else? This raises questions for artificial intelligence because some people in the field of AI believe that one day we will be immortal; we will live forever. But the question is what will live forever? The atoms that make up our body, that give us consciousness, that give rise to our personality and our fears and desires—that may die, but yet the essence of the neural circuits may survive. Now there are many ways to do this, so let’s break some of them down. The most ambitious has been proposed by people who believe that one day we will create a robot body that is perfect, a Superman, beautiful, elegant, super-powerful body with no brain. Then we will start to extract our brain tissue neuron-for-neuron and duplicate it with transistors. So for every neuron we take out of our brain we replace it with a transistor. Sooner or later chunks of our brain are removed and inserted transistor-for-transistor inside this robot body. Now we’re fully conscious during this process. Part of our brain computes here and part of our brain computes over there connected by wires. Well, after a few hours large portions of the brain are gutted and huge chunks of transistors are added to this robot of silicon and steel and when it’s finally finished you now have no brain in your head and here is a robot with a complete brain and a complete body. That is one of the most ambitious ways to transfer consciousness from our body to another body and then the question is: is that really you? Well there is another way to do it and that way was explored in "The Sixth Day" with Arnold Schwarzenegger. In that movie the bad guys get killed, but each bad guy was cloned, cloned. And somebody was able to somehow photograph all the memories of our brain and insert these memories into the clone. Now we don’t know how to do that, obviously. That is way beyond our technology, so don’t expect Arnold Schwarzenegger to come back fully-formed, with all his memories, as a clone. That is not going to happen anytime soon. However, the initial steps are once again being made at CalTech for example. They’ve been able to take a mouse brain and look at a certain part of the brain where memories are processed. Memories are processed at the very center of our brain and they’ve been able to duplicate the functions of that with a chip. So again, this does not mean that we can encode memories with a chip, but it does mean that we’ve been able to take the information storage of a mouse brain and have a silicon chip duplicate those functions. And so was mouse consciousness created in the process? I don’t know. I don’t know whether a mouse is conscious or not. But it does mean that at least in principle maybe it’s possible to transfer our consciousness and at some point maybe even become immortal.

The term "fighting the New World Order" is used by Mark to describe some of his activities, and refers to his and others' resistance and opposition (The Resistance) to the overall system of political corruption, illegal wars, elite secret societies, mainstream media, Big Brother and privacy issues; as well as various economic and social issues. Dice and his supporters sometimes refer to being "awake" or "enlightened" and see their knowledge of these topics as part of their own personal Resistance to the corrupt New World Order. This Resistance involves self-improvement, self-sufficiency, personal responsibility and spiritual growth. Mark Dice is the author of several books on current events, secret societies and conspiracies, including his newest book, Big Brother: The Orwellian Nightmare Come True which is available on Amazon.com, Kindle and Nook. While much of Mark's work confirms the existence and continued operation of the Illuminati today, he is also dedicated to debunking conspiracy theories and hoaxes and separating the facts from the fiction; hence the "Facts & Fiction" subtitle for several of his books. He has a bachelor's degree in communication from California State University. If you have an iPad or Android tablet, then you can download the Kindle app and then download any of Mark's books from the Kindle store for only $6.99 or $7.99. http://www.nollygrio.com An European scientist is currently leading a research programme to keep human being alive forever.Human minds could be downloaded into robots within 10 years, allowing human beings to ‘live forever’, says the Russian entrepreneur who heads a hi-tech research project called ‘Avatar’.Itskov, a media entrepreneur, claims to have hired 100 scientists to reach this goal – and is now looking for other scientists to help with the project. ‘This project is leading down the road to immortality,’ says Itskov. ‘A person with a perfect Avatar will be able to remain part of society. People don’t want to die.’ Itskov, a 31-year-old media entrepreneur, says that he aims to transplant a human brain into a robot body within 10 years. He says his technology will be of interest at first to the ‘disabled and close to dying’ ‘I understand these are some very big challenges for scientists,’ Itskov says. ‘But I believe in something you call ‘The American Dream.’ If you put all your energy and time into something, you can make it a reality. Itskov envisages surgically ‘transplanting’ a human consciousness into a robot body within 10 years. He hopes to then ‘upload’ minds without surgery, leaving human bodies as empty husks as their owners ‘live on’ inside robots. The project is called Avatar after the James Cameron movie, set far in the future, where human soldiers use mind control to inhabit the bodies of human alien hybrids as they carry out a war against the inhabitants of a distant world.

Dmitry Itskov maintains that he will live forever by uploading his consciousness in to a robotic body. Four years ago the Russian entrepreneur founded the 2045 Initiative, a non-profit organization with only one goal - to find a way to achieve everlasting life within the space of just three decades. The key to accomplishing this, he believes, is to develop a way to 'upload' a human mind in to a machine - an immortal body that could maintain someone's personality and consciousness. The organization employs a team of highly-skilled specialists who are working on, among other things, the neural interface that will make it possible to transfer the brain to a computer. "Different scientists call it uploading or they call it mind transfer," Iskov told the BBC. "I prefer to call it personality transfer." While the Russian billionaire's goals are certainly impressive, the question remains as to whether, even if he is successful, anyone would actually want to live forever inside the cold body of a robot. "It will provide something that has never existed before and which could not have existed, something which may appear fantastic and incredible today," he said. "All history will prove to be merely a process of preparing for an unprecedented leap forward in evolution."

Human Brain And Quantum Physics - Become Self Aware! http://theimmortalitysecret.com/human-brain-and-consciousness/ Dr. Granville Dharmawardena of the University of Colombo writes that psychologists often speak of the mind and the body as two separate entities for convenience, but most acknowledge that they are intimately entwined. Yet none knows exactly how or how intimately. So the mind body problem keeps stubbornly resisting a definite solution. Philosopher John Searle (Mills Professor of Philosophy, University of California, and Berkley) says that today’s philosophers are reluctant to tackle such big problems as how people have been trying to understand their relationship to the universe. All these refer to the elusive relationship between the body and the mind referred to more generally as the brain-mind problem. The brain-mind relationship has baffled mankind for a very long time. One main reason for this is that it was not considered as a candidate for scientific study until recently. Psychology and related sciences were able to continue for many years by either ignoring the brain entirely or at best treating it as a black box whose rules of operation could be understood without reference to its internal contents or composition. The human brain without doubt is the most complex organ in the known universe. It is physical and biological. Therefore, it has to be amenable to scientific probing without the intervention of such considerations as the Gödel’s theorem, which states that there are statements in mathematical systems which are true but cannot be proven within those systems. Consciousness on the other hand is neither physical nor biological. Therefore, it is a more elusive subject to deal with and Gödel’s considerations may have a role to play there. Attempts to understand brain and consciousness have been mostly based on restrictive Newtonian classical science and exclusively the material realm composed of matter. Although the powers of understanding of human senses and the scope of Newtonian science are limited to three spatial dimensions, the scope of our universe is not limited to three dimensions. In fact, news theories hypothesize there are eleven dimensions. Many of the natural phenomena happening within our universe transcend the three dimension scene. Therefore, it is not possible to assume that the mechanisms of operation of the brain and consciousness remain imprisoned within the confines of Isaac Newton’s three dimensional material universe. Just as the Earth was proved not to be the center of the universe, our current theories that govern our physical universe such as Einstein’s gravity theory and others may become obsolete in our understanding of reality.

Dr. Michio Kaku returns to Big Think studios to discuss his latest book, The Future of the Mind. Here, he explains how the quantifying approach common in physics can be used to model consciousness. Read more at BigThink.com: http://bigthink.com/videos/consciousness-can-be-quantified Follow Big Think here: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/bigthink Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BigThinkdotcom Twitter: https://twitter.com/bigthink Transcript: In the entire universe the two greatest scientific mysteries are first of all the origin of the universe itself. And second of all the origin of intelligence. Believe it or not, sitting on our shoulders is the most complex object that Mother Nature has created in the known universe. You have to go at least 24 trillion miles to the nearest star to find a planet that may have life and may have intelligence. And yet our brain only consumes about 20-30 watts of power and yet it performs calculations better than any large supercomputer. So it's a mystery. How is the brain wired up? And if we can figure that out what can we do with it to enhance our mental capabilities. When you look at the brain and all the parts of the brain they don't seem to make any sense at all. The visual part of the brain is way in the back, for example. Why is the brain constructed the way it is? Is this nothing but an accident of evolution? Well one way to look at it is through evolution. That is, the back of the brain is a so-called reptilian brain. The most ancient primitive part of the brain that governs balance, territoriality, mating. And so the very back of the brain is also the kind of brain that you find in reptiles. Now when I was a child I would go to the science museum and look at the snakes sometimes and they would stare back at me. And I would wonder, "What are they thinking about?" Well, I think now I know. What they're thinking about was, "Is this person lunch?" Then we have the center part of the brain going forward and that's a so-called monkey brain, the mammalian brain. The brain of emotions. The brain of social hierarchies. And then finally the front of the brain is the human brain, especially the prefrontal cortex. This is where rational thinking is. And when you ask yourself a question where am I anyway. The answer is right behind your forehead. That's where you really are. Well, I have a theory of consciousness which tries to wrap it all up together. There've been about 20,000 or so papers written about consciousness and no consensus. Never in the history of science have so many people devoted so much time to produce so little. Well, I'm a physicist and when we physicists look at a mysterious object the first thing we try to do is to create a model. A model of this object in space. And then we hit the play button and run it forward in time. This is how Newton was able to come up with the theory of gravity. This is how Einstein came up with relativity. So I tried to use this in terms of the human brain and evolution. So what I'm saying is I have a new theory of consciousness based on evolution. And that is consciousness is the number of feedback loops required to create a model of your position in space with relationship to other organisms and finally in relationship to time. So think of the consciousness of a thermostat. I believe that even a lowly thermostat has one unit of consciousness. That is, it senses the temperature around it. And then we have a flower. A flower has maybe, maybe ten units of consciousness. It has to understand the temperature, the weather, humidity, where gravity is pointing. And then finally we go to the reptilian brain which I call level 1 consciousness and reptiles basically have a very good understanding of their position in space, especially because they have to lunge out and grab prey. Then we have level 2 consciousness, the monkey consciousness. The consciousness of emotions, social hierarchies, where are we in relationship to the tribe. And then where are we as humans. As humans we are at level 3. We run simulations into the future. Animals apparently don't do this. They don't plan to hibernate. They don't plan the next day's agenda. They have no conception of tomorrow to the best of our ability. But that's what our brain does. Our brain is a prediction machine. And so when we look at the evolution from the reptilian brain to the mammalian brain to the prefrontal cortex, we realize that is the process of understanding our position in space with respect to others -- that is emotions -- and finally running simulations into the future.

Separating the Soul & Consciousness From Humans In the quest for eternal life, tech giants like Google are exploring ways to extend human life by hundreds if not thousands of years. HumaiTech, an LA based AI company is looking to take this quest for immortality a step further by transferring the minds and personalities of the dead into an artificial neural network and then downloading it into an artificial body, or cybernetic humanoid unit.... As we hurtle into our sci-fi future, a common theme seems to continually surge to the foreground of conversation: uploading human consciousness into machines. Can it be done? How will it be done? What will we lose as humans living as bodiless, artificially-intelligent constructs? What are the ethical concerns? We explore that and more. Biohacking is a growing biotechnological social movement in which individuals, communities, and small organizations, study biology and life science using the same methods as traditional research institutions. Some biohackers have hacked their body to have superpowers, becoming superhumans. Most of these hacks were self-made and made without the use of anesthesia. These particular hackers of nature , better known as biohackers, seem to come straight out of a science fiction movie. Exploiting biology and pairing it with technology sounds like sci-fi ! Scifi body hackers, biohackers or psychos? Some have already started in their own corner alone and may revolutionize the world we live in. In this video: 10. Gabriel Lacina, who achieved nightvision and can see in the dark 9. Kevin Warwick, whose project is to connect the human brain to the Internet 8. Ben Greenfield, aka your personal trainer 2.0 7. Dave Asprey and his powerful coffee: the Bullet Proof Coffee. What is Bullet Proof Coffee? 6. Tim Cannon: implanted a device connected to his Android phone on his arm. He can track his health through the device and it sends him text messages when something is wrong. Apple vs Android? 5. Neil Harbisson, the first cyborg to be officially recognized by a government. He can hear colors and has an intenna implanted in his skull. 4. Magnetic Implants - biohackers achieved a sixth sense to feel the electric fields and the magnetic fields on their fingers. Sort of a second touch, sounds sci-fi? 3. Kill aging - may be possible sooner than you think and immortality may just be around the corner 2. Upload your consciousness to the Internet? It's theoretically possible, claims Stephen Hawking. 1. Time Traveler Transcript: You may of heard of people online claiming to be real life time travelers. Some claim to be from the future, while others say they have time traveled from the past. I am here to say that time travel was not invented until around the year 2500. It was invented with the help of artificial intelligence, which has aided in many of humanity’s biggest and most influential discoveries. Now, I have carefully chosen my words with the following message, so listen carefully. My only objective is to inform you about the future of humanity, because chances are, you are curious. I was born in the year 2472. Due to technical advances, most humans as we know it, are no longer biological. While physical humans do still exist, the vast majority exist in a digital world. What used to be known as the internet, has evolved into a medium that houses most of human intelligence. Most human minds, by the year 2500, have been reverse-engineered and uploaded to a new digital reality. Inside this reality, the mind exists within a simulated environment. Such environments were at first unrealistic, but eventually they become as real as the reality you are living within right now. Eventually, they will become far better than your current reality. Inside these digital environments, there is no disease, no pain, there is nothing unwanted. Unless of course, you want the unexpected. By the year 2600, nearly every ounce of information is online. Now, giant computers take up most of Earth. Biological humans still do exist, however at some point in their life, they upload their consciousness to the internet. People still have the means of moving and interacting with physical reality by way of robots. Such robots have made superhuman powers available to average citizens. Much of the human population exists on Mars. In fact, in 2650, Mars has been completely terraformed. This has made it a possibility for biological humans to live on the red planet. By the year 2700, Venus has been completely terraformed as well. The moon, too, is home to millions of people. At this time, traditional governments no longer exist in the same ways they used to. The vast amount of online resources have ended conflict, war, poverty, and disease. By the year 3000, humans that are purely biological, have a typical height of seven feet and live to over 200 years old. Now this lifespan applies only to humans that remain biological for their entire life. Most people, however, have undergone genetic engineering and have eventually uploaded their consciousness to the internet. In the year 3000, we as humans have also confirmed the existence of extraterrestrials in the form of microbial life. No intelligent life has yet been found to exist. It is estimated that, by 4000, computer science will reach its ultimate potential. The future is perfect, too perfect. And that is why I traveled back to life out my life in 2017. Be careful what you wish for.

Nutritionists say that the natural way we humans can extend our lifespan is by living on no more than 1500 calories a day, taking regular vitamin injections and ridding our bodies of toxins. Narration provided by JaM Advertising New Mexico www.tasteofjam.com At Strange Mysteries we've covered the field of gene manipulation many times, so you may already know about the CRISPR Cas9 editing tool. Until our recent developments in gene editing and micro-robotics, cryogenically freezing people was deemed the most likely way for humans to live for extended periods of time. As with Cryonics, the methods involved in Chemical-based suspended animation are intended to preserve a human body for a set period of time, rather than extend their life-span, but unlike with Cryonics, experiments in this field have actually had some success. Nanotechnology is still in its infancy, and we're clearly some way off from having swarms of microscopic robots tend to our every need. If we come to understand how human consciousness works, and we know its limitations and requirements, could we upload and download our minds into new bodies or machines, as easily as I'm downloading new episodes of South Park right this minute? Italian neurosurgeon Sergio Canavero has been in the news a lot lately, as he claims he's about to perform the world's first ever human head transplant operation. Rather than transplanting a whole human head, might it be possible to instead move the human brain to a new body or vessel, thus eliminating the need to analyse and understand the mind on anything but a physical level?
